Learning to Skateboard - At 30 something
Skateboarding : Mid life crisis? Learning to skate (again)
When I say 'again', I really don't mean it like that. I mean I did skate once. Most likely on a an Argos bought board, when I was about 11.
I actually remember it. It was Silver and orange with some sort of ghastly beast draw on the underside. It also had oraneg pladtic guards at either end. I think there was a bit of a boarding craze on in the late 80's/early 90's.
Anyway. I haven't set foot on a skateboard in over 25 years. So I thought it might be quite a fun skill to try and learn. I could have chosen a language, but Google is making that less necessary than it one was, and I have always thought skaters are quite cool.
Anyway... I watched a YouTube video on how to pick a board, and then went online and picked one. It was a cool website, and the board arrived two days later.
So to the learning. Again, I watched a couple of YouTube vids... and decided that I would teach myself at the beginning, and once I had some basic skills maybe look for lessons in the future from a pro.
So its really hard to skateboard.
Staying on board is like being drunk and trying to run downhill.
Frankly, I just started by standing on it and trying to stay on. I don't remember the boards being so fast... and so curved, and the suspension being so malleable. I can see that it is going to be really good fun learning, and super rewarding.
I will be updating periodically. Maybe with pictures of my injuries.
