Lacoste won his first US Championships on this day in 1926
Tennis : Mega brand creator Rene Lacoste won the first of 2 US National championships on 18th September 1926.
Lacoste is a name synonymous with polo shirts and crocodiles, but sadly many will have forgotten who the man was that gave his name to the now iconic brand.
Rene won 7 grand slam singles titles, on only two surfaces, clay and grass, and was one of the “Four musketeers” that dominated the game in the 20s and 30s. You can read all about him here.
