Brief history of the Green Bay Packers
Curly Lambeau and George Calhoun first founded the Green Bay Packers in the meeting room of the Green Bay Press Gazette on August 11, 1919.
it’s highly unlikely that they thought they would be a building a football organisation that would become public property and last over 100 years!
However, that is exactly what happened to the team that is now known as the Green Bay Packers.
Before the Packers were the Green Bay Packers, they were known as the Acme Packers, as they were sponsored by the Indian Packing moving company.
However, the team chose to cut ties with this company after the 1920 season, as the company filed for bankruptcy.
Major honours and trophies
When it comes to championships, the Packers have the most in pro football history.
While they only have 4 Super Bowls and a few other teams have more, Green Bay won league championships before the Super Bowl was even in existence.
In fact, the team have won 9 other honours before the Super Bowl era first came in to play.

Aaron Rodgers
Now, it’s possible that Rodgers may be the most famous Green Bay Packer right now, as he is the current Packers quarterback.
However, this is a hard point to argue, as he hasn’t had a storied career that will put him in the Hall of Fame once he is retired.
Throughout his career, Rodgers has won a Super Bowl, made the Pro Bowl 10 times, won the Super Bowl MVP in 2011 (the year he won it) and he was 2011 offensive player of the year, too.
He also won the Bert Bell award in 2011.
Paul Hornung
Paul Hornung won a Super Bowl, but he didn’t have as many accolades as Rodgers. A part of that could be that he only played in the NFL from 1957-1966.
The first pick of the 1957 draft had 50 touchdowns for his career, 13 of which came in the 1960 season.
Clay Matthews
Clay Matthews was another member of the 2011 team that won the Super Bowl for Green Bay, and they had an 11 year career.
In those 11 years, Matthews made the Pro Bowl 6 times. He was the 26th pick of the 2009 draft, and he also made the All Pro team once.
Bart Starr
This 2 time Super Bowl champ played for the Packers from the mid 50s to the early 70s.
He won the 1966 AP, UPI and NEA MVP’s (each press association had their own vote during that era of football.
Why do the Packers play in green and gold?
When the Green Bay Packers first started, they wore navy blue and gold. Co-founder of the team Curly Lambeau chose blue, as he was a Notre Dame alumnus.
In fact, George Halas did the same thing for the Chicago Bears, choosing his Alma Mater’s colors for the team.
By 1950, the original navy blue was replaced with kelly green, but the gold stayed the same. In 1958, this kelly green was replaced with hunter green, a darker shade.
The current uniforms are a combination of forest, dark green or white jerseys and metallic gold, first adopted in 1959.

Packers logo and color history
The logo history of the Green Bay Packers is more expansive than you may think, although they haven’t made any significant changes to their logo in around 42 years.
Let’s run through the history of the Green Bay Packers logo.
1921-1950
The letters “AP”, which stand for Acme Packers, were in blue letting and the team name was in yellow.
The town name of “Green Bay Wisconsin” was in black, with the words “1921 football” in brown.
1951-1955
During this period, the Green Bay Packers started to go with green for their logo. This is supposed to represent strength, excellence, victory and persistence.
1956-1961
The logo at this time had a green backdrop for the state of Wisconsin, with a man wearing no. 41, throwing a football along with a star that marks where Green Bay is in Wisconsin.
1961-1979
This logo looks much like the logo today, except that there is no yellow in the logo and it was created at Saint Norbert by art student John Gordon, who was the assistant of the Packers equipment manager.
1980- Today
In 1980, a yellow outline was added to the Packers logo. Other than that, they kept the original design and they have not made any changes to it since then.
