Dallas Braden: Throwing Major League Baseball's 19th Perfect Game (hungover)
The 19th Perfect Game in Major League Baseball history was thrown by Dallas Braden of the Oakland Athletics
For those unacquainted with the feat of throwing a perfect game, it's about a 1 in 200,000 game occurrence.
So not terribly common.
12,000 people watched for just over two hours as Braden blew away the The Tampa Bay Rays in 2019.
The game was attended by Braden’s Grandmother, who had raised him since his Mother passed away when he was a teenager. After the game his Grandmother recalled;
“He just said ‘I love you’ and I said ‘Your Mom would have been so proud’ I think that’s what he was thinking too”
The perfect game has also had some preceding circumstances that had put Braden in the headlines. He had clashed with New York Yankees third Baseman Alex Rodriguez over the hitters apparent encroachment on the mound in a previous game.
Rodriguez had arrogantly belittled Braden by saying;
“He just told me to get off his mound. That was a little surprising. I’d never quite head that, especially from a guy that has a handful of wins in his career”
The event also has some rather interesting circumstances in its execution.
Braden has recently admitted that he was actually hungover whilst throwing the perfect game. It appears that he got into a it a little the night before and that his Grandmother was at the ballpark before he was that day!
Since then there have been only four more perfect games, the last being in August 2012.
